Web Gallery Update

Reader Ben Long correctly observes that the recent Aperture Web Galleries article was not entirely accurate: You can in fact modify the metadata sets used for a web gallery. From the Metadata Action pop-up menu in the Metadata Inspector, select New View and configure your own metadata set—or select Manage Views and duplicate an existing set. Nice!

In addition, I discovered that you can also modify the date format—but only to some extent, and not from within Aperture. To export a web gallery with a specific date format, fire up System Preferences, click on International, select the Formats tab and specify the date format that you would like to use. Then quit and restart Aperture, select your web gallery and export it. Aperture will use the date format specified in System Preferences. This is obviously clunky, and it doesn’t offer fine-grained control, but it may be enough for most purposes.
