40D Report
Over at The Luminous Landscape, Michael Reichmann has just posted a hands-on report on the new Canon EOS 40D. He has many good things to say about the camera, and also takes the opportunity to compare it to Nikon’s D300.
As previously mentioned, I think the D300 poses a serious challenge to the 40D: Price sensitive consumers will probably stick with entry level DSLRs, but for more demanding users, the D300 offers a lot of extra goodies for not a lot of extra money. It will be interesting to see which way the scales swing—but even more interesting to see how Canon responds: I predict that Canon will be jolted into action and that the next midrange models will see some significant enhancements to bring them in line with the D300’s capabilities.
